There is a lot of powerful emotion attached to this image. In 2014, a good friend was forced to leave Gotland, where he had been living in a remote limestone house situated on an old dirt road near Hejde Kauparve. There were a lot of mixed emotions around the move, and on our final day at the house he wanted to do something symbolic to mark this major life change. In the attic room were two yellow-painted kitchen chairs which had been a highly visible symbol of a happy time spent on the island, and it seemed fitting that they should become a sacrificial offering. We burned one at the house, and loaded the other into our rental van and drove to a remote area of coastline, where we doused it in petrol and set it alight.
